That amounts to $290.5 million worldwide, which no doubt has Disney executives dancing in the streets. Despite falling a bit short of what The Force Awakens accrued a year ago at this time, that’s still a pretty handsome return. After all, the studio always knew it wasn’t going to make quite as much as J.J. Abrams’ film.
With extremely positive word of the mouth and the holidays right around the corner now, we expect the prequel to continue performing strongly as the weeks go on. It deserves to, as well, as despite all the concerns that fans had beforehand, Rogue One turned out to be a thrilling new adventure for the franchise that brought something very refreshing to the table. It was far from perfect, but thanks to some strong performances and a stellar third act, not to mention a welcome stylistic departure, audiences seem to be thoroughly pleased with the film as a whole.
