MFM FC maintained their unbeaten home
record with an impressive 2-1 win against champions Enugu Rangers at the Agege Stadium on Friday. Sikiru Olatunbosun put the hosts ahead in the 32nd minute, while Stephen Odey added the second on the
hour mark. Bobby Clement halved the deficit in
the 81st minute.
The
encounter started on a cagey note with both teams trying to take control of the
game.
Obinna Nwobodo came close to handing
Rangers the lead in the 15th minute but he sliced his effort from Godwin Aguda’s pass off target. The
home side responded immediately with a chance of their own but Odey failed to
direct his shot on target.
Olatunbosun
wasted another chance for the Olukoya Boys in the 23rd minute, directing his
shot wide under pressure from Chibuzor
Madu. He atoned for that miss with a superb finish off a Odey flick in the
32nd minute, firing a magnificent volley past Itodo Akor in the Rangers goal.
Odey added the second for MFM after he was teed up by Chukwuma Onua. It was Odey’s sixth goal of the campaign. Bobby Clement handed Rangers a life line when he fired home from the edge of the box nine minutes from time but they were unable to find an equaliser.
