Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien trained with his former team-mate
Carton Cole for the first time
at Indonesian outfit Persib Bandung on Friday amid tight
security. Several supporters
trooped to the side's training ground to catch a glimpse of the two former
Chelsea stars.
The
heightened enthusiasm led to the decision of the club's top brass to engage
security officers comprising internal security and the police. The ambitious
side engaged extra security as safeguard measure to protect the two players
from the fans who were anxious to see them at the club.
Persib
Bandung's Manager Jonathan Umuh said
“There are about four more security
officers that we have engaged. They have been tasked to secure the situation in
order for the training to go on orderly. Safeguard were provided specifically
for the two players so the supporters are controlled. We tried that yesterday
(when Essien trained). There are internal security and the police. There is a
huge sense of enthusiasm among the fans and we don't want to take anything to
chance. The fans want autographs as well and so we don't want any spontaneous
situation.”
