Banky W is one of those few artistes that has continued to define the odds whenever they drop an album, it is a common trend right here in Nigeria, that the first album of any artiste is always the best but that hasn’t been the case of Banky W.
The EME boss has continued to wax stronger with each album and like I use to say if you truly want to listen to R&B in Nigeria then Banky is the person you should listen to, he is the only artiste that does real R&B songs that's why I have named him King of R&B.
Today we present to you his latest project titled Songs About You.
Whatchu Doing Tonight kicked off the album and it gave us an idea of what to expect from the album. If there is one thing I have always respected Banky for, it is how he has always found a way to infuse those Nigerian feelings into his love songs and once again he was on point with on this song. The rating of this song will be 8/10.
The next track of the album is Running After You (Ft. Nonso Amadi), when I heard this song I was blown away, from the production down to the melody and lyrics Banky was so on point. I only have one word for this song brilliant and the rating would be a perfect 10.
The third track of the album is Kololo (I still Love You) and we already review this song on the 9th episode of Absolute Hearts Music Review and the rating was a 9/10.
All I Want Is You (Ft. Chidinma) is the next track, this track was released sometimes last year and it also featured on the Absolute Hearts Music Review and got an 8/10 rating.
Love U Baby is the 5th song off this album, this song gives us that old school Banky feeling that we loved so much and once again he killed and the rating would be 8/10.
Heaven (Susu’s Song): when I first heard this song, I tried to comprehend the inspiration that could have been behind it and I all I could think of was love. Of course this whole album is based on love but there was just something different about this song, the rating would be 9/10.
Better For U, the way this song started off I thought it was going to be a cover of Reminisce's Where I Come From but after I listened very well I realized both songs just had similar piano. This song reminds of Strong Thing just that this is better, the rating would be 9/10.
When the news of Banky and Adesua broke, this song Made For You finally made sense to me, I have to say till date the video of that song is one of, if not the best, romantic music video I have seen in this country. This song was also featured on of our Absolute Hearts Music Review episodes and the rating was 9/10.
I have to say I was excited when I saw Maleek Berry on this album, a Banky and Berry collaboration?, my ear was itching but I was a little disappointed, I was expecting something deeper, fresher and more original but all I was hearing Yes/No all over just with different lyrics. If I was hearing this song for the first time I would have given it a higher rating but I'm sorry the rating for All For U would be 4/10.
All in all I would say Banky gave us a perfect love album, when talking about the best R&B album so far this year the award goes to Songs About You. Total rating would be 8.4/10.
