Germany's Euro 2017
quarter-final tie against Denmark was called off on Saturday due to heavy rain
resulting in a waterlogged pitch. Adverse conditions meant kick-off between the
sides in Rotterdam was delayed by more than an hour, before the decision was
taken to postpone the match to Sunday.
Players entered the pitch for a
second warm-up an hour after the planned kick-off time as the rain stopped, but
the water visibly hampered passes longer than a metre. Ground staff attempted to shift excess water from the field but the
conditions led to UEFA announcing the game would be rescheduled.
A statement on UEFA's website
read “Due to the unsuitable pitch
condition, the referee, in conjunction with the UEFA delegate, decided to
postpone the match at Sparta Stadium, Rotterdam. The match is scheduled to be
played on Sunday.”
