Lars Stindl has been ruled out of the World Cup

Germany and Borussia Monchengladbach forward Lars Stindl has been ruled out of the World Cup through injury.

The 29-year-old suffered an ankle injury during Gladbach's 1-1 Bundesliga draw with Schalke on Saturday. He will undergo an operation this week and is likely to be out for around three months.

Stindl said: "To suffer such a bad injury at this point in the season is very hard. On the one hand I can't help my team at the important season finale, and on the other, my World Cup dream is also over."
