The people's
Elephant, Enyimba
are on track on winning the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL)
title for the seventh time this season. Enyimba has eight games to end
of the current season and have accumulated a total of 55 points from 30 games,
having won 15, drew 10 matches and lost 5matches.
Enyimba remaining eight matches involves
the top four teams, Warri Wolves, Wikki Tourists and Sunshine Stars,
the title is for Enyimba to lose.
Enyimba are on 55 points and could end up
with between 68 points and 66 points to be crowned champions again.
Enyimba's next game is away to Heartland,
which they are likely to lose or get a draw because they are bad travelers and
haven't won much games away and have draw much of it.
Their
subsequent game will be at home to Shooting Stars and they will be
expected to win all three points. They are then, away to Nasarawa United
and should come away empty handed, while they should take three points at home
to Kwara United.
A draw or a
loss will be the possible result at Abia Warriors in a derby. They host
title chasers, Warri Wolves and three points or one is possible, while
it’s assumed they will lose or draw in Akure with Sunshine Stars. Enyimba goalkeeper
Femi Thomas said that this is the
time for them to work harder to remain on top till the end of the season.
"There are still lots of games to play before season’s end, we are not
being carried away as leaders,” he said.
Second-placed
Warri Wolves with 51 points from 30 games could end the season with 64,
65 or 63 points. They should get 12 points from their remaining home games
against Akwa United, Sunshine Stars, Bayelsa United and Taraba United.
Their away games are against Kano Pillars,
Lobi Stars of Makurdi and Enugu Rangers, they can get a point
each from Enugu Rangers and Lobi Stars.
Wikki
Tourists could be
the surprise league winners if Enyimba fail to win the games they are
expected to win. The Tourist have 51 points and could finish the season
with 66, 65 or 64 points. They should get 12 points from their home games
against Taraba United, Ifeanyi Ubah, Dolphins FC and Kano Pillars. From
their away games against Enyimba, El-Kanemi Warriors, Sharks FC and Giwa
FC, they can get 1 point from all the last three away games or 1 in two as
listed here. Wikki Tourist striker Victor
Yakubu said that the title race is still open and he will favour his team
to swing it.
‘The Akure
Gunners’ Sunshine
Stars at some point looked good to emerge champions, but they blew it in
the last four weeks, losing to Enugu Rangers, Shooting Stars, Wikki Tourist a
draw with Heartland FC, made their title aspirations blur. It would
therefore be a miracle for them to win the league as they will need like nine
points from their remaining four away games which are against Warri Wolves, Kano
Pillars, Akwa United and Bayelsa United, they can get a point each at
Akwa United and Bayelsa United. Their home games are not going to
be easy against Enyimba, Enugu Rangers, Abia Warriors and Lobi Stars.
They should get 12 points or 10 from their four home games and will end the
season with 64, 63, 62 or 61 points.
So the
league is yet to be decided, but from the look of things, the league is Enyimba's to lose.
