Horror Movies Based On Real Events

I know for a fact that some of all these romance and inspirational movie are sometimes based on real life stories but I wasn’t so sure about horror movies, so I decided to do a research to know for sure if some of the horror movies we see are also base on real life event or are just work of fiction.

After my research I was able to find out that some horror movies are actually a replica of what happened in real life with little or no poetic license thrown in. with been said, brace yourself as I share with you 10 horror movies that are based on real life events.

1.      Fire In The Sky

This movie tells a tale about Travis Walton claimed to have been abducted by aliens. The movie gives details of what happened to Travis when he was taken aboard an alien spaceship.

2.      The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

This movie is based on serial killer Ed Gein. The film shows Leatherface murdering and skinning his victims, using their skin to create the infamous mask he wears.

3.      Psycho

This is another movie that is based on Ed Gein and I think this one actually did more justice to the real life event. The serial killer is said to have had an unnatural relationship with his mother. He also wore costumes, though Anthony Perkins never put on a skin mask, the way Gein did.

4.      The Serpent and The Rainbow

This movie is base on a book about real life witch doctors and their ability to actually bring zombies back to life. The movie explained how Clairvius Narcisse who was supposedly died in 1962 came back from the grave in 1980. Clairvius explained that a voodoo practitioner put him into a deathly trance and then revived him to use him as a slave for a plantation from which he could only escape after the death of the master. Wes Craven the director did a good job turning this movie into a horror movie.

5.      The Conjuring

The Conjuring tells the story of Ed and Lorraine Warren, who were indeed paranormal investigators. Though for movie sake some things were changed concerning the real event but Lorraine, who is still alive (Ed the husband is late), says the film is pretty close to the truth.

6.      Annabelle

This movie is about a doll that was supposedly surrounded by a demon that was out to swallow up souls. This true life events turned to movie was also witnessed by the paranormal investigator couple Ed and Lorraine Warren.

7.      The Hills Have Eyes

I remember how scared I was when I saw this movie, the movie talks about cannibals that reside in isolated mountains that have been irradiated by nuclear testing. While the nuclear testing might have been faked, the story is based on that of Alexander “Sawney” Bean was said to have been executed for the cannibalization of more than 1,000 people in Scotland.

8.      The Exorcist

I have seen a couple of movies where exorcists were performed but none were as real as The Exorcist.  This movie is based on the real life of a boy named Roland Doe who was possessed by demons in 1949. The exorcism was so memorable and terrifying that there have been books written on people who witnessed it.

9.      The Amityville Horror

This is the true story about the “Most haunted house in America.” The New York home was the scene of some rather gruesome murders and shortly after those murders, a new family that moved into the house says they witnessed a number of supernatural happenings before they eventually moved out.

10.  The Haunting In Connecticut

America certainly has enough ghost stories in its history that it’s possible that this movie depicted things that actually happened.
