The man of
the moment Jamie Vardy has today
been officially presented with his Guinness
World Records certificate in honour of his 11 game record goal-scoring run
in the Barclays Premier League. The England player received the award at
Leicester City's training ground today ahead of his side's important fixture
away to Swansea in the Premier
League.
Accepting
his Guinness World Records title, Vardy said: “I'm delighted to have broken the record, but the most important thing
is that the team is getting positive results. I've managed to get on the
end of things, but it's my team-mates that have got me into the positions and
all of our hard work that is making the difference. The record is a nice thing
to have, but I don't mind who is scoring the goals, as long as we keep picking
up points in every time we go on the pitch.'
The historic
came when Vardy notched his 14th goal of the season during the 1-1 draw against
Manchester United at the King Power Stadium in Leicester last
Saturday. His goal at Old Trafford ended former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy's 12 year old
record of scoring in 10 consecutive games Vardy's unprecedented goal scoring
run has been stretched across three months from 29 August to 28 November.
Guinness
World Records Editor in-Chief Craig
Glenday had this to say about the record and the holder, “Jamie Vardy's incredible goal scoring run
has been one of the most talked about personal achievements in English
football. His journey has been much discussed and has proved that anything can
be achieved with heart, determination and human endeavour. We welcome him with
delight in to our record breaking family”.
If he scores
this weekend he would draw level with English record holder Jimmy Dunne, who
netted in 12 consecutive matches for Sheffield United between October 24, 1931
and January 1, 1932.
