Nigeria and Algeria have
completed the roster of teams for the semi-finals of the ongoing Africa Under
23 Championship after both teams played out a goalless draw in their final
group game on Saturday.
Algeria’s first game was a 1-1
draw with their North African neighbours, Egypt, before shooting to the top of
Group B with a 2-0 win over Mali. The Algerians were able to hold on to top
spot with the barren draw recorded against Nigeria.
On their part, the Dream Team
VI failed to score for the first time in Senegal, after their first match was a
3 - 2 win against West African Neighbours, Mali with Junior Ajayi scoring twice
and Usman Mohammed adding the third, their second game was a two all draw with
Egypt, with Oghenekaro scroing twice from the penalty spot, their third game
was against Algeria as they failed to score, they will be proud not to have conceded
either as they march on to the semi-final where they will face tournament hosts
Senegal for a place in the final.
Algeria and Nigeria tops the
group with 5points but Algeria had a better goal difference, +2 to against
Nigeria's +1, Nigeria scored 5goals and conceded 4goals, while Algeria scored
3goals and conceded 1goal.
The top three teams from the
23 Africa Championships will earn automatic qualification to the Rio Olympic Men’s
football event. Nigeria's next game is host Country Senagal, as a win will earn
them a place in the final and also guarantee a place at the 2016 Olympic games.
Senegal on the other hand tops
the group A with maximum points from their three games, their first game was
against South Africa which they won by three goals to one, with goals coming from
Ibrahima Kieta and Sidy Sarr, their second game was against Tunisia which they
won comfortably by two goals to nil, goals came from Ibrahima Diedhoiu, Mouhamodu
Diallo, their final game was against Zambia and they won by an early lone goal,
scored by Mouhamodu Diallo.
Senega faces Nigeria on the
9th of December at the country's capital Dakar, while Algeria faces
South Africa same day. Defending champions Gabon failed to qualify
after they lost to Mali during the qualifiers.
