West Ham has confirmed that Carl Jenkinson could be out for the
rest of the season after the full-back had suffered a significant knee injury.
Jenkinson, who is on loan from Arsenal,
lasted only 13 minutes of Saturday's 2-2 Premier League draw with Manchester City before limping off, to
be replaced by Sam Byram on his
Hammers debut following his move from Leeds last week.
A statement from West Ham later on Tuesday read: “West Ham United can confirm that Carl Jenkinson injured his left knee
during the early stages of Saturday's Premier League fixture with Manchester
City. Unfortunately, it appears that Carl has suffered a significant injury and
he will be assessed by a specialist in central London on Wednesday. A further
update will be provided when the full extent of the injury has been confirmed”.
If the 23years old's injury is as serious as feared, it will take the
Arsenal defender to the end of his loan spell at Upton Park and means he is
unlikely to play for West Ham again. He has made 23 appearances this season,
scoring in successive games against Sunderland
and Crystal Palace in October.
