Manchester City forward Kevin De Bruyne could be out for as
much as six weeks with ankle and knee injuries, according to the player's
representatives.
The Belgium international had to be stretchered off in serious pain
towards the end of City's victory over Everton
in the Capital One Cup semi-final on Wednesday and his represenative, Patrick de Koster, have said that De
Bruyne is sad after scans revealed the extent of the injury. De Bruyne, who
scored one goal and made another on Wednesday night, suffered the injury
following an innocuous looking challenge from Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori.
De Koster said “I spoke with him earlier
and he's a little bit sad because he's got a tear in the ankle and in the
lateral in his knee ligaments. For sure he will need six weeks rehabilitation.
But he is going to do more medicals today. I think on Friday morning will have
more news for when he can play again. He wants to play football and he
will miss important games - the final and Champions League games. It's
something that can arrive in football and the only thing to do is work hard and
come back”.
Everton goalkeeper Joel Robles
said sorry on Wednesday evening for attempting to pick De Bruyne up after he
went down injured. Robles tweeted: “I
would like to apologise to Kevin De Bruyne for my reaction to his injury.
In the heat of the moment I didn't realise he was badly hurt. I wish him all the
best and a speedy recovery”
