Manchester United players were screaming and shouting at each other at
half-time before rallying to beat Liverpool
on Sunday.
United had
been second best at Anfield, relying on keeper David de Gea to keep them in the game and Liverpool Mamadou Sakho claimed he heard Louis van Gaal's side angrily rowing
during the break and Morgan Schneiderlin
has come out to confirm that the atmosphere was heated. Sakho said “United were lucky and they know it, we
could hear them shouting in the dressing room at half-time”
Morgan Schneiderlin argued that a failure to press
Liverpool quickly enough was the reason for the anger saying “In the first half, we didn't win enough
second balls. Sometimes we won the first ball but not the second ball. When we
came into the dressing room after the first half, there was some screaming and
shouting but of course that is normal because in a derby you cannot lose the
battle. Liverpool are a very high-pressing team and we knew if we kept a clean
sheet we would have a chance to win the game”.
Wayne
Rooney clinched a winner in the 78th minute, his first goal at Anfield for 11
years and that was his
176th top-flight goal for United, making him the highest goalscorer for any one
club in the Premier League era.
