Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has lambasted Cesc
Fabregas as'pathetic after
backing out of a 50/50 tackle as the Chelsea star went in for a
challenge with MK Dons captain Dean Lewington but pulled out at the
last-minute, with the Championship side subsequently scoring from the
attack.
Speaking at half-time during the FA Cup fourth
round clash, Shearer the Match of the Day pundit laid into the Spain
international following the incident saying “It isn't great defending at all and that's being polite. I'm sorry but
the challenge here or the lack of it, look at the distance Fabregas has got to
go to challenge and Lewington has got to go. I'm sorry, I don't care
who you are but you can't laugh at that, it's pathetic, it really is. You're
one-nil up and trying to protect [the lead] here and you've got a 50/50 ball
and you pull out of it, there is no excuse for that as a professional
footballer. I don't care if you're good at tackling, bad at tackling or
anything at tackling, you cannot pull out. You cannot do it, that is actually
pathetic”.
Luckily for Fabregas, it didn't turn out to be too costly, as the Blues ran riot at the Stadium mk, thanks to a first-half hat-trick from Oscar and goals from Eden Hazard and Bertrand Traore.
