Anthony Joshua To Make First World Title Defence On June 25

Anthony Joshua has revealed his first IBF world heavyweight title defence will take place on June 25 at The O2. The Londoner will return to what has become his spiritual home, having beaten Dillian Whyte there in a British title classic in December before crushing America's Charles Martin inside two rounds on April 9 to become world champion.

Joshua posted a video on his social media accounts in which he said “After speaking to my coach I wanted the closest fight possible because I'm feeling good. I can't wait to get back in training camp and pick up where we left off. The date to put in your diary is June 25, back at The O2 for my first title defence with a jam-packed undercard. I can't wait to be back and I'm looking forward to performing for you once again. Take care and see you guys soon”.

As yet, no opponent has been named, but Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn recently earmarked a trio of US-based fighters as possibilities Bermane Stiverne, Eric Molina and Dominic Breazeale. Hearn also confirmed Whyte, who is currently mapping out his route to a rematch against Joshua in the wake of shoulder surgery, may fight on the undercard.
