Brendan Rodgers Close To Swansea City Management Return

Brendan Rodgers is closing in on a return to management at his former club Swansea. Rodgers left South Wales for three years at Liverpool but was fired in October and replaced by Jurgen Klopp.

Swansea have made him their top target when Garry Monk was sacked in December and believe they have finally persuaded the 43-year-old Northern Irishman to make a return rather than pursue his coaching ambitions in Europe. Francesco Guidolin, who only arrived at the Liberty Stadium in January, is expected to be in the frame for the Watford job if Quique Sanchez Flores is forced out at the end of the season.

Flores will lead Watford into an FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace at Wembley on Sunday but uncertainty about his future at Vicarage Road has erupted in the last seven days. Italian Guidolin has strong bonds with Watford owner Gino Pozzo, having twice worked for the Pozzo family as head coach of Udinese, leading them to their best ever finish, third in Serie A in 2012. When he arrived in the Premier League, 60-year-old Guidolin revealed he had always wanted to work in English football but expected the call to come via the Pozzos.
