Real Madrid
coach Zinedine Zidane hailed Gareth Bale’s impact on his team and
said Cristiano Ronaldo would
definitely be travelling to Manchester on Monday for the Champions League
semi-final first leg.
He also
admitted concern over an injury to Karim
Benzema who was taken off before half-ttime in the draining five-goal slog
in the rain against Madrid minnows Rayo
Vallecano. Bale dragged Real Madrid back into a match they were losing 2-0
after 15 minutes, scoring the first and third of their 3-2 win, and Zidane
said: “I’m very happy with him. He made
the difference. We needed him today and he delivered. He was lacking minutes
and so it was good for him. He played very well throughout and to get the goals
was important too. He is getting stronger and he is going to be very important
for us”.
Zidane revealed that Ronaldo, who missed the Rayo win as a precaution after picking up a thigh strain in midweek, would definitely travel to Manchester on Monday after scans on Friday confirmed no damage to his hamstring. He seemed less sure about the chances of Benzema making the game. The Frenchman has been dogged by thigh strains this season and he left the pitch feeling the back of his thigh against Rayo.
Zidane said: “We will have to see how it develops. I thought at first it was just a blow to the leg but it is not. I hope it is nothing and he can play on Tuesday”.
