Nick Blackwell Hails Support After Waking From Induced Coma

Nick Blackwell says he has come through the toughest fight of his life after waking from a seven day induced coma. Blackwell who spoke publically for the first time since being taken to hospital following his British middleweight title defeat to Chris Eubank Jr on March 26 thanked everyone for the support he received over the past two weeks. The 25years old suffered a small bleed on the skull but did not require surgery and woke a week after the fight.

He wrote “Just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has been there for me, all my friends and family, those who wished me well and those who raised money for me. I feel truly blessed and have massive love for you all. I couldn't have done it without you. It's been the toughest fight of my life and you all have made it that bit easier. On to rehab now, progress is getting better by the day. Big love to you all, Nick”

Blackwell was placed in an induced coma after being rushed to St Mary's Hospital in London following the 10th-round stoppage defeat at Wembley Arena.  He collapsed in the ring after the bout was halted by referee Victor Loughlin and was taken away from the arena on a stretcher while receiving oxygen.  Following the bout, it emerged that Chris Eubank Snr had told his son prior to the ninth-round not to target Blackwell's head in an attempt to prevent the fighter from further punishment.
