After bowing out of the women's doubles with Heather Watson, it was another exit for Konta who had no answer to Kerber's power and her final hop of a medal rest in the mixed doubles when she will team up with Jamie Murray.
Second seed Kerber continued her brilliant season so far with a ruthless performance that saw her lose just three games to set up a blockbuster semi-final with Madison Keys who beat Russia's Daria Kasatkina 6-3 6-1.
Kerber, who beat Serena Williams to claim the title in Melbourne and then lost to the American in the Wimbledon final, will be a strong favourite to add an Olympic medal to her list of achievements this season and is in with a chance of claiming the world number one ranking in the final weeks of the season.
