Angry Birds Movie Might Get A Sequel

It seems Finnish giant Rovio and Sony Pictures have hatched early plans for a follow-up to the Angry Birds movie. That’s according to Rovio CEO Kati Levoranta, who revealed to VentureBeat that the company has already started mapping out plans for a sequel, though it appears things are still in the nascent stages of development.

He said “We currently have several exciting new games and other projects in development, including new IP, and we have started planning the sequel to The Angry Birds Movie. With the excellent performance of our games portfolio and the fantastic movie, the Angry Birds brand is flying high and we are seeing positive EBIT and cash flow development, while fulfilling our mission to create world-class entertainment.”

Fergal Reilly and Clay Kaytis were the directors that helped Angry Birds take flight at the box office, becoming a $350 million success story – off the back of a $75 million production budget, no less. It featured such voice talent as Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Kate McKinnon, Sean Penn, and more, and next up for Rovio will surely be to nail down new contracts for the principal cast – not to mention finding a host of newcomers.
