Nigeria’s
Aruna Quadri will on Monday test his might against German star, Timo Boll, in
Round 4 of the men’s singles table tennis event of the Rio Olympics.
Quadri qualified for the Round 4 of the men’s singles table
tennis event after an awesome performance against world number seven, Chinese
Taipei’s Chuang Chih-yuan
Quadri in 24 minutes took his highly ranked opponent to the
cleaners to keep Nigeria’s flag flying in the men’s singles table tennis event
as well as keep his own Olympic dream afloat.
Quadri beat Chuang 11-6, 12-10, 11-6, 11-7 and now faces another
stern test in Boll who was formerly world number one but at the moment ranked
13th in the world.
Should Quadri beat his German opponent and qualify for the
quarterfinal of the men’s table tennis singles event, this will be the biggest
feat to be achieved by an African at the Olympic Games!
This outing in Rio is Quadri’s second appearance at the Olympics.
The first was at London 2012, where he bowed out in the 2nd Round of the
Singles event, but not without gaining the respect and admiration of the crowd.
