Stoke City Agree Fee For Ryan Sweeney

 

Stoke City are set to complete the signing of AFC Wimbledon defender Ryan Sweeney for a fee in the region of £250,000. The 19years old should complete his move to the bet365 Stadium side on Friday after a medical personal terms have already been agreed.

AFC Wimbledon could earn almost £1m from the deal if Sweeney does move on to Stoke, that is the maximum fee they will receive if bonus clauses are met, based on achievements by the 19-year-old and Stoke. The newly promoted club will also get a percentage of any fee Stoke receive, should the Premier League team sell on the defender.

Republic of Ireland U18 international Sweeney moved to AFC Wimbledon in 2005 aged just eight and completed his route into the senior team when he made his Football League debut against Dagenham and Redbridge before his first start came against Oxford United in April 2015.

After impressive performances at the end of last season, coming into the team in February following an injury to Karleigh Osborne, Sweeney was reportedly interesting the likes of Tottenham and West Ham.
He signed a new deal with the Sky Bet League Two side and now Stoke look set to secure the signature of the defender. Sweeney has made 13 appearances for the Dons overall, with 10 of those coming from February 2016 onwards.
