Ahmed Musa has said that the
Ramadan fasting will have no adverse effect on his performance if he is
selected by coach Gernot Rohr
for Saturday's 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South
Africa's Bafana Bafana here in Uyo.
There was a report last week that Rohr held talks with the Muslim
players in the squad about shelving the Ramadan fasting ahead of the game, but
Musa insisted that such meeting was never held.
Musa is one of the four practicing Muslims the current Eagles squad
alongside Maroof Youssef, Alhassan
Ibrahim and Abdullahi Shehu. Musa
admitted that only a win at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on
Saturday will atone for the Eagles' inability to qualify for the 2015
AFCON.
He said “It's not the first time
I'm fasting and playing football as well, It's up to the coach to decide if I
get to play or not but that won't in anyway affect my game. We have put that
behind us that unfortunate game and we need to win to start the campaign well.
It's our first game and we are confident.”
