President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday appointed Olusola Enikanolaiye as a permanent secretary in the Federal Civil Service.
The Director of Communication, Office of the Head of Service of the Federation, Haruna Yazid, said that until his appointment, Mr. Enikanolaiye was the Charge-de affairs at the Nigerian High Commission, India.

The Islamic State, better known as ISIS, has announced a new leader for the insurgent group, Boko Haram.
ISIS referred to Abu Musab al-Barnawi, who was previously spokesman for Boko Haram, as the new leader replacing Abubakar Shekau.

Stan Wawrinka has withdrawn from the Olympics due to a back injury. The 31years old is the third Swiss player to withdraw after Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic who also scratched from the event through injury.

CBN directs commercial banks to accept cheques in savings accounts

Read statement below:

“The CBN in furtherance of its efforts at strengthening the Nigerian payments system hereby issues the following directives: The removal of fixed interest rate on credit cards; Discontinuation of actual address verification in account opening for customers with the BVN; Banks should begin to embed BVN biometric data in payment cards issued henceforth, to facilitate offline BVN verification and biometric based customer authentication on such payment devices as Automated Teller Machines, ATMs, Point of Sales Terminals, POS, Kiosks, etc, Approval of BVN Watch-listing modalities and release by CBN of necessary Credit Risk Management System (CRMS) data, to facilitate its use for enriching the BVN watch-list; savings account customers with BVN should be allowed to deposit cheques worth not more than N2,000,000.00 (Two million naira) into their accounts, per customer, per day.

Emirates aircraft carrying 300 catches fire in Dubai

An Emirate airline flight travelling from Trivandrum International Airport in Thiruvananthapuram, India, to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, on Wednesday caught fire after landing at the Dubai International Airport, reports say.

Vladimir Morozov And Nikita Lobintsev Yet To Be Cleared For Rio

Swimming's governing body FINA says Russians Vladimir Morozov and Nikita Lobintsev have yet to be cleared to compete in the Olympics, contrary to reports in Russia. The swimming federation issued a statement saying that both swimmers were implicated in the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) independent report that found evidence of a state-backed system of covering up doping in Russia.

Liverpool is planning to make a bid to stage the 2026 Commonwealth Games, with a host of sporting stars lending their support. The city announced at precisely 8.26pm (20.26) on Tuesday that it hopes to be in with a chance of holding the most inclusive Commonwealth Games ever and could submit its bid in as little as 13 months, with the Games still a decade away.

Luc Besson Sued For Plagiarism

 
A Paris appeals court has ruled that Luc Besson, his EuropaCorp production company, and the co-writers/directors of the 2012 film Lockout  plagiarized 1981’s Escape From New York. This is the second ruling in the case. At the end of 2015, the court found in favour of John Carpenter and his team, and awarded them $95,000. Carpenter’s camp had originally asked for $2.4 million. Besson’s team filed an appeal, however, and lost again. The result of this final ruling is that Luc Besson and his filmmaking associates must now pay over $500,000 to John Carpenter, his co-writer Nick Castle, and the production company StudioCanal.
