An Open Letter To all Nigerian Artistes by a Passionate Fan

Dear Nigerian Artistes,
I am writing this letter as a very passionate fan of the Nigerian music industry, my love for the industry can’t be explained that why I would continue to write when I notice that something is going wrong in the industry.
A couple of months ago I wrote an article concerning how desperate our artistes are to feature a foreign artiste on their song and once again I am going to touch on that subject but in a different approach. Almost all our A list artistes in Nigeria now see it as a must or a bragging right to feature a foreign act in their album which too isn’t bad but like I would always ask to what end and at what cost.

The reason why I am visiting this matter again is because of Runtown who just released his debut album titled Ghetto University and to be honest I am highly impressed with the album but there was one thing that didn't go well with me. The opening track of the album featured the famous DJ Khaled and it is titled “Money Bag”, now hearing the name of that track I was like okay it seems like what DJ Khaled would appear on but the question I asked myself was this “what exactly was Khaled going to do the track?

I became highly disappointed when I heard the song not because the song wasn't good but because I was so much after what DJ Khaled was going to say and when I heard what he had to offer I was disappointed.

First I am disappointed for two reasons; out of the all the foreign artistes there is to feature why DJ Khaled? What did Runtown hope to gain by featuring DJ Khaled?

All DJ Khaled did on the track was just to hype Runtwon something Special Ed (former hype man for Mohit) would have done much better. Now the question I would like to ask Runtown is this, did you feature DJ Khaled because you needed to feature an international artiste? Because left to me DJ Khaled had no effect on that track and I must say this, you wasted time and money. If all you needed was hyping on the track people like Jimmy Jatt and Xclusive would have even added more effect to the song.

To Runtown and every other Nigerian artiste that are still planning on featuring an international artiste on their song, please make sure you choose an artiste that would not only make the song sound better but an artiste that would also add value to you as an artiste.

Thank you

Yours faithfully
A Passionate Fan
