Update On Gambit

The solo outing for the ragin’ Cajun is another Fox-owned Marvel project that’s been on the cards for years. It’s gained and lost directors, and it’s gained and lost its leading man. To be honest, the film’s lengthy development history is just too lengthy to fully explore here, but here’s the skinny as of now: Channing Tatum remains attached to star and Doug Liman is still in line to direct.

Simon Kinberg is involved as a producer and he has given us another reason to not write off the film completely. In the same vein as his recent updates, he said that the issue lies in scoring the perfect tone saying “The truth is when you have these movies that need a very special and unique tone, it takes a little while to find that tone. Deadpool felt like it exploded out of nowhere but it was a ten-year development process on that movie. I hope that Gambit doesn’t take ten years, but it takes a little honing to get that tone and that voice exactly right. Really it’s just about getting a screenplay that is worthy of that character and I think we’re really close right now.”

Four weeks back Kinberg said they had a great script that they were hoping to shoot soon. While it might sound now like he’s backtracking, it’s more than likely that the writers are still ironing out specific elements to make sure Gambit possesses a distinctive style.
