Only now is 20th Century Fox beginning to unleash those iconic saucers with Independence Day: Resurgence crashing into theaters today, June 24. That hasn’t quelled Roland Emmrich’s enthusiasm to continue his sci-fi franchise beyond 2016, though, revealing to Empire that he’s already drafted up some ideas for a potential Independence Day 3. Of course, the likelihood of said threequel will hinge on the box office performance of Resurgence but at least for now, Emmerich is envisioning the next installment as an “intergalactic journey.” Strap in folks, we could be leaving Earth behind.

Finding Dory wins second weekend at the box office against Independence Day: Resurgence

Despite the release of a number of new movies in wide and limited release, Disney•Pixar‘s animated sequel Finding Dory won its second weekend at the box office with $73.2 million, down about 46% from its record-setting opening weekend. It has grossed $287 million domestically so far, making it Pixar Animation’s fifth highest-grossing movie, as it has already surpassed the domestic gross of Monsters University in 2013. It should surpass Up‘s $293 million this coming week and the $340 million the original Finding Nemo grossed in 2003 by next weekend.

Bryan Fuller Talks On Recent Star Trek Rumors

With the franchise celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, Star Trek fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of both next month’s Star Trek Beyond and next year’s new Star Trek series — the franchise’s first since Star Trek Enterprise concluded its four season run in 2005. Although we’ve seen a teaser trailer, specific details about the new show are few and far between. Moviefone managed to catch up with showrunner Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, American Gods) at this week’s Saturn Awards and got an update regarding some of the Star Trek rumors that have hit the web.

USA Network is betting big with Mr. Robot season 2, announcing plans to extend the sophomore run by a further two episodes with a live after show to boot.
