Ex first lady, Patience Jonathan, denies link with companies that pleaded guilty money laundering charges

Former first lady, Patience Jonathan, has denied allegations that her accounts were used to launder huge sums of money. According to The Nation, Mrs Jonathan made the denial in a statement by her media aide, Yemi Akinbode, shortly after four companies which are being investigated for fraud and which she had earlier claimed ownership of their accounts, pleaded guilty to money laundering charges at a Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday September 15th. The statement in part reads;

Buhari & ministers converge to search for solutions to Nigeria's economic downturn

President Muhammadu Buhari and his deputy, Yemi Osinbajo, are billed to converge in Abuja on Thursday for a one-day retreat to search for ways to pull the country’s economy out of recession.
The retreat occurs barely 48 hours after the immediate past Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, challenged the present administration to search for solutions to the current economic crisis in the country.

Uzbekistan tennis officials Sherzod Hasanov and Arkhip Molotyagin have been banned for life for betting-related offences, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) has confirmed. Following investigations by the Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU), the pair were found guilty of using a mobile phone to communicate scores of matches at which they were officiating to a third party at an ITF Futures event in Israel last September.
