Joaquin Phoenix Circling Jesus Christ Role In Mary Magdalene Biopic

Joaquin Phoenix is in final negotiations to board The Weinstein Company’s Mary Magdalene biopic as Jesus Christ. Directed by Garth Davis, the religious feature has already tapped Rooney Mara as the titular Christian figure, and while the addition of Phoenix would certainly be a major casting coup for the studio’s awards-friendly picture, the deal is still a ways away from being finalized due to the actor’s schedule.

Actress Nina Dobrev is looking to branch out into bigger things and the actress may have made all the right incisions into Hollywood with a possible role in the Flatliners remake. Reports have it that Dobrev is in talks with Sony for a lead in Niels Arden Oplev’s reboot of the medical thriller. If she signs on, she’ll star alongside Diego Luna and Ellen Page.  If cast, Dobrev would star as Marlo, an honor student at the med school and assuming Oplev and writer Ben Ripley’s film runs parallel to the original, she’ll team up with Luna, Page and other students to push the boundaries of life and death.

Undeterred by mixed reviews and questions of thinly-drawn characters, MTV is pushing ahead with its epic fantasy series The Shannara Chronicles now that the network has nailed down plans for a second season.
Based once again on Terry Brooks’ sprawling and best-selling novel series Shannara Chronicles dates back to 1977, and shows no signs of slowing up MTV didn’t disclose specific details of the sophomore run, nor when we can expect it to premiere. Nevertheless, an official statement from the network’s top brass revealed a desire to keep that momentum burning bright.
